CD: (SINGS) You gotta look for the silver lining

Whene'er a cloud appears in the blue

Remember somewhere the sun is shining

And so the best thing to do is make it shine for you---

GK: They say it's supposed to be a hard winter this year.

TR: Yeah, I heard that.

SS: Oh, they say that every year.

GK: And every year it's true.

FN: April will be here before you know it.

TR: Right. October, November, December, January, February, March, it's only six months away.

SS: Six months of no insects and no poisonous snakes and very little mildew.

FN: You're right about that. Terrible mildew down south. I had a friend in New Orleans who had mildew in his shoes--- fungus under his toenails --- he had to sit with his feet in a tub of antiseptic for three weeks.

SS: Imagine that.

TR: Nothing kills mold and mildew like 30 below. I tell you.

SS: That's for sure.

CD: (SINGS)

You gotta look for the silver lining

Whene'er a cloud appears in the blue

It may take time but you'll be finding

Something that's going right for you.

SS: I am so depressed about work. My life. Winter. I am 37 years old and look at me. I'm single and I'm stuck in a dead-end library job working for a horrible boss and I have no friends. Except you. (MEOW) My gosh. For pitiful! An old maid confiding in her cat. (MEOW) But you do love me. I know that. And I know that whatever I tell you, you're not going to go blabbing to other people, right? Right, Snowball? (MEOW)

GK (SINGS): Look for the silver lining, when you are tempted to cry and curse

And even though you are declining, you know it could be much much worse.

CD: I'm Italian and I married a Norwegian and moved here from Brooklyn and suddenly my life got very quiet. I grew up in a house where the simple question of what color napkins to put out on the table was a big big deal (TR ITALIAN TORRENT, SS ITALIAN RESPONSES). And here in Minnesota? Not so much.

TR: So.

CD: Yes?

TR: What's up?

CD: Were you about to say something?

TR: About what?

CD: Whatever.

TR: I donno.

CD: Okay. ----The way I look at it is----- silence makes it possible to hear if mosquitoes are coming in.

CD (SINGS):

A heart filled with joy and gladness

Can always banish sadness and strife,

So always look for the silver lining

And try to find the sunny side of life.
