GK: Our Navy brass band is but one of the musical units the Navy has. There's a Navy bluegrass band (RK/PD 4 BARS ANCHORS AWEIGH), a Navy jazz band (GR/RD/PJ 4 BARS ANCHORS), a Navy rocknroll band (SHOES: R&R ANCHORS AWEIGH, 4 BARS), a Naval bagpipe band (SFX ANCHORS), and a Navy sitar/tabla ensemble (SFX ANCHORS) and a Navy steel drummer (SFX ANCHORS). There's a Navy pop band with vocalist:

GK: Music is important to instill spirit in the troops. Life aboard ship can be hard, weeks spent cooped up in rough seas (SFX), and what can improve morale quite like a Naval banjoist (BANJO, ANCHORS AWEIGH) in the mess hall. Even in the close quarters of a submarine (KLAXON, DIVE, DIVE, SONAR), the crew is always reassured to know they are close to a submarine bass. (BASS RUNS) A Prairie Home Companion salutes our U.S. Navy Musicians for their ability to make music even in rough seas.
