IT'S SO COLD

(DOWN TO THE RIVER TO PRAY)

When I went out to start my car

It was so cold that it hurt my face

My car wouldn't start when I turned the key

Good Lord it is so cold

O mother it's so cold, it's so cold, it's so cold

O mother it's so cold, trying to start my car

I asked my neighbor to jump my car

We got out the cables, hooked them to the posts

I turned the key and it made no sound

Good Lord it is so cold

O father it's so cold, it's so cold, it's so cold

O father it's so cold, trying to jump my car

When I went down to the corner bus stop

To wait for the bus to go downtown

I wish I'd worn a hat and scarf

Good Lord it is so cold

O brother it's so cold, it's so cold, it's so cold

O brother it's so cold, down at the corner bus stop

I waited and waited for the bus to come

Along with six other refugees

We looked down the street, the empty street

Good Lord it is so cold

O sister, it's so cold, it's so cold, it's so cold

O sister it's so cold, waiting for the bus to come

I sometimes think of Santa Fe,

Santa Fe and a beautiful day

Sitting in an outdoor cafe

In my gold lame'

O mother let's go down,

Let's go down, come on down

O mother let's go down

Down to Santa Fe.
