GK: People imagine that music schools aren't competitive, that the arts all work together and live in harmony, but that just isn't true, which became clear last year when a group of string players at Indiana University invented Extreme Haydn and they played Haydn's Surprise Symphony while whitewater rafting on the Colorado River (HAYDN, RAFTING, YELLS), and then played Haydn while running with the bulls at Pamplona (CONFUSED HAYDN, BULLS RUNNING, YELLS) and that was a challenge to Juilliard who sent a group to play Haydn's Surprise while bungee jumping off the Verazzano Bridge in New York, (BUNGEE, YELLING, HAYDN), and so the Manhattan School of Music sent their orchestra to the North Pole to play Haydn (DOGSLEDS, HAYDN A LITTLE SHARP, POLAR BEAR), and it was a little sharp due to the cold, but they were considered the winners of Ultimate Haydn until Curtis sent their chamber group to Hawaii to play Haydn's Surprise while rappelling into a volcano (BUBBLING, STEAM, HAYDN), so New England Conservatory fashioned a raft out of old cellos and floated through the sewers of Boston (RATS, HAYDN ECHOEY), so Indiana came back playing in deep caves in Borneo (HAYDN, ECHOES, BATS), and then Curtis comes back playing Haydn on horseback (HORSES RUNNING, HAYDN), Julliard set up on a ledge halfway up Mount Everest (WIND, HAYDN WITH MORE VIBRATO, SHIVERING)...
GK: ...and then Oberlin got into Extreme Haydn and sent an orchestra to Sea World to play in a pool with dolphins--(HAYDN, DOLPHINS SPLASHING) and Juilliard came back by sending a string orchestra to Coney Island to play Haydn's Surprise while riding the Cyclone (HAYDN, RATCHET OF ROLLER COASTER TO TOP OF SLOPE, AND THEN FAST DESCENT SCREAMING)--and Curtis came back playing Haydn while leaping out of an airplane (AIRPLANE, CRY "GERONIMO" AND HAYDN, WIND BLOWING PAST) and then the U.S. Marine Chamber Orchestra got into the act by playing Haydn while being lowered from a helicopter (HAYDN, CHOPPER) onto an aircraft carrier (BOAT HORN) and into fighter jets taking off in a storm (THUNDER, LIGHTNING, JET AIRPLANE) and that did it for Indiana University. They are sending their string players to the moon where they will play inside space suits while jumping on pogo sticks hundreds of feet into the air (ROCKET, HAYDN) -- Goodbye, Indiana University string section. Safe travels and good luck as Extreme Haydn continues.
