I am a pilgrim and a stranger
Travelling through this world of snow.
When I looked outdoors this morning
I thought of heading for Mexico.
I've got a sister in Carolina
And a cousin in Tucson too.
I am determined to go and see them
After Christmas for a month or two.
I am a pilgrim and a stranger
Travelling down this lonesome road.
I am bowed down with grief and sorrow
And also from this overcoat.
I need to find another occupation
That I can do when I go south.
I could be a cashier in a Seven-Eleven
Or at Wal-Mart - I'm not too proud.
I am a pilgrim and a stranger
I'm heading south in a week or so.
To sit in the sun in my shorts and T-shirt
Where the grass is green and there is no snow.
I can live in my sister's basement
I know she loves me, that's what she said
I'm heading south when I get some money
Meanwhile I'll stay right here in bed.
