(Recorded June 18 for broadcast on June 19)

We're in Los Angeles, not far from the zoo (BABOONS), not far from Forest Lawn (TOURIST: Look, there's Fatty Arbuckle.), and the Chinese Theater where the stars put their hands into concrete (SPLOSH), and the Hollywood Freeway (CARS PASSING, HORNS DOPPLER. 'OUTTA THE WAY'), and West Hollywood where many people you see have been surgically altered (CLINK OF INSTRUMENTS, VENTILATOR), and off to the west, Venice Beach (SURF, SEAGULLS), home of people who've spent three and four hours every day in the gym (RHYTHMIC FEET: "3,4,5, feel the burn, good"), even the dogs go to the gym (RHYTHMIC BARKING OF DOGS DOING JUMPING JACKS), and the cops go by on bikes (BALL BEARING CLICKS, SQUEAKS), except for the cops in the helicopters overhead (CHOPPER) followed by six news choppers (MORE CHOPPERS) all of whom are following a chase on the ground (DOG BARKING, RUNNING, CAT MEOW). Everything starts in L.A. Customized license plates, customized car horns (GONE WITH WIND THEME). The smog is not bad today (ASTHMATIC BREATHING) and the air smells of salt from the ocean and also from the French fries ("Please pull forward to the 2nd window.") and the perspiration of tourists taking the tour of the Move Studio (JAWS BASS THROB, SCREAM) and seeing the house from Psycho (VIOLIN SCRITCHES). Los Angeles. Quite a place. Glad to be here.
