Historic GK The Library of Congress is going to put a piece of Prairie Home history in the national registry of historic sound. Listen to a clip from the first broadcast. First 'Prairie Home' broadcast named historic recording March 19, 2004 (Washington-AP)—Garrison Keillor's first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion nearly 30 years ago has been deemed historic. It will join the original cast recording of Oklahoma! and the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, among others, in the nation's registry of historic sound. The Library of Congress has announced the second group of 50 recordings chosen to be digitally preserved. Keillor hosted the first live broadcast of his radio show from Macalester College in St. Paul on July 6, 1974. Another Minnesotan—Judy Garland, who was born in Grand Rapids—is on the latest list. Her 1961 Judy at Carnegie Hall recording also was chosen. |
